About This Site
Why "therem.net"?
The name "Therem" belongs to a character in Ursula K. Le Guin's novel, "The Left Hand of Darkness". This book made a huge impression on me in my college years, and I came to identify strongly with one of the protagonists, named in full Therem Harth rem ir Estraven (and usually referred to as "Estraven" in the book). A few years later -- in the mid-1990s, when AOL screen names were all the rage -- I took the internet name of Therem, and have held it ever since. It is one of the regrets of my life that I didn't tell Le Guin herself how much her work affected me while she was still alive.
